Abstract-Artwork.com is still in its infancy and many more features are coming in time. To name a few, I'm working on learning how to make the submission process easier, generate pages for each of the artists, a way to comment directly in the main site, and improve or add many more features.
Dictonary.com defines abstract art as "A trend in painting and sculpture in the twentieth century. Abstract art seeks to break away from traditional representation of physical objects. It explores the relationships of forms and colors, whereas more traditional art represents the world in recognizable images." This Definition is close but doesn't really express the power that abstract art holds. I find that Wikipedia has a much better definition of Abstract art.
"Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world."
I love the inclusion of 'language' in the definition given by Wikipedia. Art, especially abstract art is just that, a language, and a powerful one at that. I have found abstract art to be even more expressive than english which boasts many words but still can't be used to fully express the depth of my emotions from time to time. When words fail me, I reach for my brush or pencil and create.
